Cleansing from the Inside Out

Cleansing your mind to heal your body

We wash the outside of our body daily, we get our cars detailed we clean our home and even do a deep clean in our home a few times a year. We do this to remove the build-up of dirt and residue that can accumulate over time so why is it so foreign to so many people to consider cleaning out the inside of their bodies. Our body is the only home we get to live in and so many of us abuse this sacred vessel until it begins to fail on many different levels. Yearly cleansing of our internal organs should be a right of passage, it should be something that is passed down from generation to generation like it is in so many other cultures. Cleansing is the best preventative care you can possibly do for yourself, just because you don’t feel sick does not mean you are healthy. Don’t wait until you feel ill to start taking care of yourself.

There are many ways to cleanse, from resting the digestive system through fasting to cleaning out the colon or stimulating the liver/gallbladder to release toxic sludge, mucus and even stones, cleansing the blood and improving circulation with the goal of reactivating your body’s self-healing mechanism.  Along with recharging the body with phytonutrients and earth-derived supplements.

The best way to cleanse your mind from clutter is with 9 deep breaths throughout the day. When you find yourself in the heat of the moment, stop and take 9 deep breathes to calm yourself down and get into a state where you can think before you act. One of the best things I learned from Dr. Groups lectures is that studies have shown that the fastest way to go from a sympathetic (stress) state to a parasympathetic (relax) state is 9 deep breathes. This is important since we are in a constant state of stress, if we eat while we are watching TV, at our desk, standing at the kitchen counter or while we are driving we are in a state of stress and our digestive system is unable to work properly. If you suffer from anxiety or panic attacks, stop what you are doing and take 9 deep breathes to elevate your mood, practice this before you sit down to eat, get your family together to sit down and have at least one meal together, have everyone take 9 deep breathes before eating, this will aid in the digestive process along with chewing your food 25 times or more. Our food should be as close to liquid as possible before swallowing.

There are many other factors in our lives that cause undue stress and disease inside of us. Meditating, yoga, walks in nature or close to the ocean, preferably barefoot, swimming in the ocean, outdoor sports and anything else that make you happy and at peace can help reduce these stress factors from your life. Exercise has shown to increase the production and release of the happiness chemical in your body called serotonin.

Did you know that 90% of serotonin is produced in your digestive tract? Peripheral serotonin is produced in the digestive tract by enterochromaffin (EC) cells. Low levels of this neurotransmitter have been linked to osteoporosis, irritable bowel syndrome and even cardiovascular disease. This is another reason to maintain a healthy gut through cleansing and restoring healthy gut flora with pre and probiotics, phytonutrients and earth-derived supplementation.

Eliminating negative people is imperative for your health and wellbeing, I have become very good at this. Call me selfish but my inner peace and happiness come first, if someone is super negative, if they are constantly causing drama or playing the victim and never willing to accept fault or work on changing themselves, I simply delete them from my life. Being an Empath, I tend to take on emotions and energy, I am a licensed massage therapist for a living so I’m taking on emotions and outside energy all day long, when I leave that environment I shake it off and want to enter a peaceful world that I created, I have no time for other people’s negative energy and constant drama. I have nothing against these people and I realize that everyone is in a different place in life I just know that my emotional needs must come before theirs.

90% of disease is caused by stress and emotional baggage and only 10% is passed down through your genes, this was discovered through the science of epigenetics (I will discuss this further in future blogs).

A few years ago I watched A seminar with Dr. Group and these are some of the notes I took.

The Importance of Meditation

Meditation is a continuous journey and practice, much like yoga and optimal health, there is no finish line and there is no set way to do it, all we can do is try our best to quiet our mind for as long as we possibly can.

I have a very hard time quieting my mind. However, I enjoy complete silence, I don’t listen to the radio in my car nor do I fall asleep with the TV on anymore but sitting and getting my mind to completely be still is a challenge and often only happens during my final vinyasa, after a 90 minute session of hot vinyasa flow or Bikram yoga class, but its a start so I am ok with that. Recently the beautiful man in my life shared his meditation ritual with me and I really enjoyed it. We went to a quiet spot on the beach and sat just feet away from the ocean, the beauty of what was in front of me was enough to quit my mind and then I closed my eyes and took my nine deep breathes into stillness.

It seems no matter who I am listening to or what philosophy I am currently studying, all the great healers and spiritual leaders have one thing in common, they meditate every day and stress the importance of this practice to elevate your mind and also how to heal your body with your mind.

Many have suggested the best way to start a meditation practice is to make a peaceful place in your home with a comfortable cushion to sit on and as soon as you wake up, go to this place and sit in a comfortable position. Set a timer for 3 minutes, don’t check your phone or social media, go here with a fresh mind, close your eyes and start your nine deep breathes, even if your mind wanders, stay in this position for 3 minutes, continually trying to quiet your mind, concentrate on the clock ticking or the hum of the air-conditioning until that sound fades into the background and your mind is thoughtless. Do this every morning and eventually try and do this 2 and then 3 times a day, gradually increasing the time.

In the words of Dr. Bruce Lipton:

In the science of epigenetics, it’s been found that it’s the perception of your environment that controls your genes. You’re not a victim of your genes because you’re the one who can change your enviroment–or, more importantly, change your perception of your environment–and thus change your response to it.

Let me tell you some fundamentals of how the mind works so this will be more clear to you. The cells of your body are merely following instructions given by the nervous system, by the brain. The nervous system does the interpretation. You can easily see this when you see two people reacting to the same stimulus with very different reactions, one positive and one negative. As your perception changes, you change the message that your nervous system communicates to the cells of your body. Your mind controls your biology. That’s what the placebo effect is about; the mind believes the pill will work so it does.

    1. Thank you so much for the kind words. I told Tiffany to give you my phone number, feel free to text me any time. Sorry it took me so long to find this comment. Trying to fix the settings so they automatically show up.

The best way to get collagen into your system is by making homemade bone broth from a pasture raised, grass-fed animals. I am not a fan of collagen powder because it’s a processed food. I always ask myself with any product, “How did they get it from its natural state into a powder and is there any nutritional value left at the end of that process.?”

I use Red light therapy ( I own a BEMER PEMF machine) to stimulate collagen production. I have worked with red light therapy in the spas for years. I find it works well if you do 3 treatments a week for 12 weeks and then touch up treatments. I’d be happy to show you the machine and let you try it anytime

I also use Organic Biotin for my hair, skin and nails along with drinking half my body weight in ounces of purified water every day. I have a blog written on both.
